Euro Contrôle Route (ECR) and TISPOL organised the twenty-second Master Class on digital tachograph

Euro Contrôle Route (ECR) and TISPOL organised the twenty-second Master Class on digital tachograph fraud from the  7th until the 11th of October in Osnabrück, Germany.

The Master Classes were organised for the first time in 2009 and have proven to be immensely popular within the enforcement community in Europe: demand always outstrips the number of available places.

The Master Class is a three-day event. On the first day the students are introduced into the history from the analogue to the smart tachograph. This introduction is followed by two sessions dedicated to technical data. During the afternoon session specialists from the TWG working group show the students some practical cases of tachograph fraud (the most common techniques of manipulation, as well as the more sophisticated approaches). Special attention is given to the methods of detection at the roadside.

The next day students get the opportunity to put the theory into practice when they work in groups to solve several test cases. A thorough feedback session goes through the cases step by step.

During the last day, a presentation was given by TailorLux, a company, which develops and realises industrial marking solutions for customers to protect and prove the integrity of materials and products. After this presentation, a session about enforcement in practice took place. Finally the floor was opened to the students who were asked to give a (country) presentation on tachograph enforcement in their country. This part of the programme facilitates an exchange of good practices between the participating countries.

The Master Class as a whole has created a network of trained enforcement staff, who often stay in touch long after the training and continue the exchange of expertise and information.
